Gallery

NJCU Visual Arts Gallery

Year:

2020

Location

New Jersey City University

The BURN Project is a multi-disciplinary visual, poetic, literary and ethnographic study on how history, socio-political, cultural, economic, and familial relationships shape identity, reality and healing Black American women. The project is divided in two phases (1) Origin & Resistance, and (2) Representation, Body, Beauty & Girlhood. Phase I Installation will shine light on the origins of BURN origin, resistance, and revolt through digital videos, sounds, 2D & 3D work. The Burn Theory Map, Ink, Marker on Paper (2020) provides the theoretical framework for this project. Burn uses interviews, digital collages, poetry, sound, abstract and conceptual visual artwork to unpack how black women manage BURN.
