Justice + Divinity: An African American Liturgy

Justice and Divinity reflects the dignity, grace, resistance, and faith of black people despite structural and individual racism, hegemony, inequality, and misogyny.

Justice and Divinity reflects the dignity, grace, resistance, and faith of black people despite structural and individual racism, hegemony, inequality, and misogyny. Through the Middle Passage, Jim Crow segregation, Black Lives Matter, the summer of racial reckoning, and an Insurrection, black people still stand tall. This poetry was informed by my visual artwork which remembers the history and struggle and, simultaneously, honors the power and spirit of the divine within black culture and people. My artwork gave birth to this written work.
