A Timely Poem

By Dr. Antoinette Ellis-Williams

The fight for justice is never easy.

The decision to do right is a risk some find too high to pay.

In my warm home far from the front line who am I to push or judge?

Pass the remote.

How privileged are we that we can turn the news on & off?

Pretend.

Disappear for just a little bit.

Breonna Taylor felt the same way then said good night.

A society that locks up women, femme & gay persons for prostitution and frees their“heterosexual” cisgender male clients and traffickers is at best ignorant at worse is evil.

Turning off the news will not prevent the end of the worldbut a bubble bath may make it more bearable.
